Waiting too long isn't "LOVE"
I often get asked: "How often should I take my dog for full grooming?" The truth is, the frequency of haircuts isn't the same for everyone, and there's no magic answer.
It all depends on three fundamental factors: • Home management: How much time do you dedicate to it? • Desired length: Do you want it long and flowing or short and sporty? • Coat type: Every breed and every coat has its own needs.
The real question you should ask yourself isn't “how often should I get a haircut?”, but “how well can I manage the coat between grooming sessions?”.
Long coat or more practical coat?
If you choose to maintain a long coat, it requires a precise commitment at home: • Constant brushing • Regular washing • Appropriate products • Lots of time and patience
A long coat is elegant and beautiful, but it requires consistency. If, on the other hand, you want simpler management, you can easily opt for a more practical length, without ever sacrificing the harmony and beauty of the cut. The choice of length must always be consistent with the actual management you can guarantee at home.
The fundamental two-month rule
For the health of the skin and coat, you should never go longer than two months without shortening the length, even just slightly. Exceeding this interval inevitably means:
• Increased risk of knots and matting • Making daily management much more difficult • Stress on the dog's coat and skin
When choosing to keep the coat very long, it may be necessary to visit the salon every single month to maintain the balance, proportions, and health of the coat.
Client preference vs. reality
Every owner has their aesthetic taste, and it's absolutely right to respect that. But personal taste can never justify neglected management that inevitably leads to the obligation of a complete shave for hygiene and health reasons.
Shaving should never be the consequence of a lack of maintenance.
My grooming philosophy
My professional goal isn't to shorten for convenience. My job is to keep your dog's coat healthy, harmonious, and manageable over time. With proper scheduling and our constant collaboration, you can choose the most suitable length without ever having to resort to drastic solutions.
A well-groomed coat is a choice. An imposed shave is a consequence.
